While I realize this one needs to be filed under ‘future dreams’, I hope one day that my skills will be enough so that I might tackle a project such as this.

This boat plan is for a twenty-two foot long sharpie skiff sailing boat with a small 2 person cabin. ‘Coot is a throwback to the days when sharpies dominated the Chesapeake Bay. With her raking masts and “clipper” bowsprit, she also suggests the lines of the larger Skipjacks and Pungies that once plied the Bay. If built today, I imagine this Coot would get her share of attention wherever she went.’

While a little hard to read, as its mostly a collection of scanned book pages, this plan assumes lots of pre-knowledge. Remember, you can use your browsers ‘Zoom’ function to make the diagrams easier to read – usually ‘CTRL and +’ on your keyboard. Over a dozen diagrams are included, as well as a thorough material list.

This is the second version of the authors experiment to build a Medieval Style Bench. The second version has been strengthened for a safer sitting experience.

This bench design is not just made to be in a Medieval style, but with its fastener-free plan, it could be allowed into any Renn Faire or Medieval encampment without scorn.

A couple of simple schematics are included along with pictures of the finished bench. There is also a link to a PowerPoint files, but do not worry if you do not have PowerPoint, as the same diagrams of the bench plans are included on the main plan page as gif pictures.

This week’s project is one I have been dieing to try – a full grown wishing well. This wooden wishing well is relatively easy – not just their words – I watched the video and got a nice little confidence boost

This wishing well can be constructed using common size lumber and will be the feature in any garden or yard. I am also thinking of converting the base to a half height, or perhaps just scaling down the wishing well 10-20 percent.

The instructions for this plan are superb, and this six page article is riddled with great photographs and some detailed plans and a full materials list to help you along … and of course did I mention the cool video …

This bird house plan is aimed at creating a project for kids, and so fits nicely into the beginner category. This article describes how to create a bluebird house kit that is easy to produce and costs very little.

The article suggests either distributing the bird house kit as a youth project, or assembling them yourself to put around your yard. It also contains some links creating a “bluebird trail” if you are interested in attracting bluebirds to your property

The author describes the assembly process is nearly foolproof, and much credit should go out to them for creating such a detailed article, peppered with lots of easy-to-understand diagrams.

This article has two parts. Part 1 shows you how to create the kits. Part 2 is the assembly instructions.

Box joints are like two medieval castle walls, locked head-to-head together. Hmm, maybe a picture does save a thousand words. Box joints add a professional touch to your projects, they can be cut on a table saw with a dado blade or with a router in a table with a straight bit. Generally the thickness of the material and the width of the tails are the same, they should be cut slightly deeper then trimmed for a perfectly flush fit.

Good photos accompany this guide, as well as some links to special tools you could use.

This arched bridge was constructed entirely on their back lawn, showing that you do not always need an elaborate workshop or shed to undertake such a project.

A lovely ornament for your garden, perfectly accenting that pond you have been meaning to dig, this multi page (eight in all) plan, walks you a project to construct your own garden bridge, that could, with moderation be scaled up as needed.

The basic plan view could be a little better, but they more than make up for it with a detailed materials list, and tons of pictures and tips to help you get this project done.

There’s even a link to a matching teacup bird feeder!

The teapot birdhouse contains a full material list; an exploded view of the project; and a couple of step-by-step photos. Also included is a full-size printable pattern of the teapot facade, and a nice photo of the finished birdhouse.

So this week, rather than showcasing just one plan – I want to give a shout-out to a website with a whole bunch of plans for the model wooden plane builder.

With over 100 plans for wooden airplane models, this site has different categories ranging from Old Timer Airplane Plans to Modern and Sport Model Plans, and best of all, all of these plans are free . Though, more for the advanced modeler, one has to admire the work that has gone into producing each of the model airplane plans.

Note, that the plans for each wooden aircraft model, is contained in a downloadable zip file, which in turn, contains a ‘DXF’ file. This is CAD format that can be read by AutoCad and other such programs. You can also download a free DXF viewer program here

A chicken coop is a place of shelter, a safe retreat for chickens and a place where the hens can lay their eggs. A chicken coop is accompanied by a run, which is the chickens’ outside area. The scope of the run can vary greatly depending on local conditions, the type of predator (wild or domestic) that might be lurking around seeking a free chicken meal and anything else that could be a threat to the well-being of the chicken. These factors will also determine whether the chicken can be free-ranging or confined to a fenced or fully enclosed type of holding pen.

This chicken coop should comfortably house at least eight chickens and generously allows for:

4.5 sq ft (0.4 sq m) of space per chicken

3 nests shared between 8 chickens

9″ (225mm)of perch length for each chicken

The design also allows for:
a bit of a storage area, chicken hatchway (i.e. entrance hole), ample ventilation, ample light and a door that opens inwards and is big enough to enable easy access and cleaning of the chicken coop.

This is a very thorough plan with over 14 pages of information. With several diagrams per page, as well as photos of completed chicken coop , this is a very thorough plan. There is of course a full materials list, and some encouraging comments from a few people that have finished this plan.

This box chair plan has, how shall we say … several uses.

First off it is an excellent and stylish storage solution, that, of course, doubles as a handy chair. Additionally it has a portable aspect to it, so it can double as a discreet porta potty shell. Combine that with period looks, and it might be perfect for your next Ren-Faire or Civil War re-enactment tent.

This project is obviously a labor of love for the author, and it sounds as if the plans have moved through several iterations as the author perfected them.

The chair has short legs to keep it off the ground, protects the bottom from ground moisture & mold, also keeps it cleaner & doesn’t’ kill grass. If you’re concerned about the legs tearing a plastic ground tarp, you can get some of those rubber chair-leg stoppers that fit over the end of the chair leg; you’ll probably have to whittle the end of the leg to fit it.

This is a multi-page article with lots of extra diagrams, and some extra chair back patterns.
